Daring smugglers: risking it all
They knew the treacherous mountain world like the backs of their hands, were courageous, and had an unwavering loyalty – always on guard against customs officers, the smugglers travelled along risky routes. They were part of the impoverished population that smuggled coveted goods such as coffee, cigarettes, or nylon stockings from our region all the way to Innsbruck in the post-war period. Imagine these clever smugglers returning home, weary but triumphant. Today, they’d certainly make a pit-stop at Schmuggler-Alm on their way and refuel with their favourite meal from the menu.
